Camping

A Special Message for our Big Nasty Campers as we hit our 9th Year...

Campers can start checking in to the campground on Friday, September 16th at 9am. Our main campground is designed for motorhomes, camp trailers, and tents brought in with cars or trucks.  We have three, separate campgrounds: the main campground in the back, a separate campground for motorcycles, and of course all hillclimb participants will camp in the pits.  You may lineup along side the road before we starting letting you in at 9am on Friday. Camping passes will be available for $20 at all Big Nasty ticket outlets beginning on August 10.  All camping spots are first-come, first-served. There are no reserved camping spots. The campground consists of a level pasture and you may build a fire if you wish, but please remove the rocks when you leave.  Thanks to Durham Gravel in Payette, there will be a water truck continuously watering the roads in and out of the pits, campground and parking lots all weekend this year, so expect very little dust in those areas (it got pretty dusty back there last year).

NEW NOTE: Virtually all of our campers have always used the front gate, but you might consider trying the back gate this year.  It is a 2-mile longer drive to get in, but the amount of dirt road drivng relevant to the back gate is about 1/4 mile, instead of 3/4 of a mile at relevant to the front gate.  Click Here for a map that shows how to get to both the front and back gates.

PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERYONE, WHETHER THEY BUY A CAMPING PASS OR NOT, HAS TO BUY A 1, 2 OR 3-DAY ADMISSION TICKET, (WRISTBAND). A CAMPING PASS DOES NOT GET YOU INTO THE EVENT, RATHER, IT ALLOWS YOUR CAMPER, MOTORHOME OR TENT TO SPEND 1, 2 OR 3 NIGHTS IN THE CAMPGROUND.  LAST YEAR WE STARTED TAKING A QUICK LOOK INSIDE CAMPERS AS THEY CAME IN, JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE BUYS A TICKET.  THIS WORKED WELL, SO WE WILL DO IT AGAIN THIS YEAR.  WE ARE SIMPLY MAKING SURE THAT EVERYONE BUYS AN ADMISSION TICKET.  THIS IS BECAUSE IN THE PAST WE HAVE SEEN SOME FOLKS RUNNING AROUND ALL WEEKEND WITHOUT A WRIST BRACELET ON, CLAIMING THAT "it got lost."  WE SIMPLY CANNOT TOLERATE THIS ANYMORE.  IT ISN'T FAIR TO THOSE WHO PAY AND PLAY BY THE RULES, AND IT ISN'T FAIR TO US BECAUSE IT COSTS NEARLY $150,00 TO PUT THE NASTY ON EVERY YEAR.  IT ALSO ISN'T FAIR TO TOM PENCE WHO OWNS THIS PROPERTY, AND IT IS ESPECIALLY UNFAIR TO OUR PRO HILLCLIMBERS WHO ENTERTAIN YOU.  THEY GET PAID BY OUR TICKET SALES, AND 30 CENTS OUT OF EVERY DOLLAR OF TICKET SALES GOES STRAIGHT INTO THE PRO PURSE.  THAT MEANS THAT IF WE GOT CHEATED OUT OF $10,000 IN TICKET MONEY, THE PRO RIDERS GOT CHEATED OUT OF $3,000, AND THAT IS NOT FAIR TO THESE HARD-WORKING PROFESSIONAL RIDERS WHO PUT ON SUCH A GREAT SHOW.  SO PLEASE ALLOW US TO TAKE A QUICK PEEK IN YOUR RIG AND PLAY FAIR WITH US.

As always, you can have your own food and alcohol (and leashed dogs) in the campground, but NOT in the spectator area. We want the Big Nasty to remain a G-rated, family, fun event during the day, and we are okay with it getting a little bit edgier at night, and earning a PG-rating because adults need their time too. The 1pm campground curfew, that we started last year, will continue this year. You can still stay up all night, if you want to, but at 1am we are going to walk through the campground and ask people to turn their stereos down, and get quiet enough for those who want to sleep, to do so. If you want to stay up all night and strum your guitar and tell stories, that is fine, but you will have to do it quietly enough so that others can sleep.  Because of some unacceptable behavior last year, we unfortunately are NOT going to be able to allow people to bring in hot tubs or their own DJ's into the campground this year!  It was interesting, but just got a little too wild last year.  Sorry.

Please note that NO overnight camping is allowed in the spectator parking areas. They are for day use only and will be swept at the end of each day to make sure that they are clear.

Our motorcycle camping area was completely re-designed last year, and virtually all of the riding on dirt has been eliminated. the motorcycle campground has its own entrance, right off of the pavement. All motorcycle riders who are not riding in the hillclimb will camp in the motorcycle campground, including the the MotoTech Dual Sport riders and the Bad Ass Bike Road riders.

The camping fee remains the same as last year, $20 per vehicle, which can be anything from a huge motorhome to a motorcycle, van, pickup with a tent, or any other kind of vehicle which spends the night in one of the camping areas. In the past, we have had problems with someone paying for a camping pass for a motorhome, and then 2-4 more vehicles such as cars, trying to come in on the same pass. This year, we will allow ONE and one ONLY car to come into the campground with each camping vehicle because we understand that some of you may need a shuttle vehicle, but beyond that, EACH vehicle that enters the camping area MUST have a $20 camping pass.  AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERYONE, WHETHER THEY BUY A CAMPING PASS OR NOT, HAS TO BUY A 1, 2 OR 3-DAY ADMISSION TICKET, (WRISTBAND). A CAMPING PASS DOES NOT GET YOU INTO THE EVENT, RATHER, IT ALLOWS YOUR CAMPER, MOTORHOME OR TENT TO SPEND 1, 2 OR 3 NIGHTS IN THE CAMPGROUND.  AGAIN, WE MAY PEEK IN YOUR CAMPER JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE BUYS AN ADMISSION TICKET.

NEW ATV POLICY You are more welcome than ever to bring your ATV to the event, and this year we have added a number of fun ATV events, including a full-blown D.I.R.T. mud drag, behind the campground, (near the helicopter rides).  We are once again partnering with Moto Tech, who along with Edge Performance, Cycle City of Mountain Home, and Carl's Cycle, will have a 1-mile ATV demo track in the back, along with last year's popular 4-mile ATV Safari Loop. Please check under the ATV rides and Mud Drag buttons on the website for more information on our ATV adventure rides and mud drag races. Part of the reason that we are adding organized ATV activities is to stop, once and for all, the ATV racing that is going on in the campground. ALL ATV's will be issued a free number this year. Please keep it in sight on your machine during your stay with us, and we are going to have ZERO tolerance for speeding and racing in the campground and pits this year and in years to come. We will more strictly be enforcing a 15 mph speed limit at the event to everyone who is on the property and not entered in the event, and no bikes or ATVs will be allowed to be ridden from 1am to 7am. A total ban on ATV's was discussed, but we still believe that most of you deserve to bring your ATVs out to Big Nasty Land, and we want to continue to allow you to have that privilege. It is ironic that most of our injuries in the past haven't happened on the hill, but instead in the campground when someone crashed a 4-wheeler. So, our patience is finally gone when it comes to drunk dummies, speeding around on 4-wheelers and bikes, and endangering others and kicking up dust. Beyond that, this is the year that our law enforcement staff WILL take your ATV away from you for the weekend if they see you being an idiot on it. That is why ALL ATV's will be numbered this year, so that we can track them.

Pit Bike, minibikes and motorcycles Note - Pit bikes, minis and dirt bikes are NOT banned in the pits and campground, but they will also be numbered and will be watched more closely than ever, and speeding or stupid behavior on pit bikes will NOT be tolerated either. If you want to speed and go wild on your pit bike, we have two pit bike classes in the hillclimb, and a bunch of mud drag classes too.  Please enter one of them, and save your craziness for the hill and/or the mud drag. If you behave like an idiot on your pit bike in the pits or campground, it WILL be taken away from you by the police until the end of the weekend, and you might get sent home early.

Please use the garbage cans and toilets and haul as much out as you brought in. WE ARE TRYING HARDER THAN EVER TO RECYCLE, SO PLEASE THROW YOUR ALUMINUM CANS AND PLASTIC BOTTLES IN OUR SPECIALLY-MARKED CONTAINERS AND WE WILL TAKE THEM TO A RECYCLER.

We are very lucky to have a property owner who is gracious enough to host this motorized event. In this day and age it is hard to find someone who will support this amazing sport.  We all owe many thanks to Mr. Tom Pence for having us as his guests on his beautiful ranch, which has been in his family since 1879.  THANKS TOM!
